For the Loftus Bralette, the center insert is crucial to the fit of the bralette. In this post, we’ll be showing you how to modify this piece to give the fit you desire.

With its 3-piece cups, internal powerbar, and wide band, the Loftus is everything you’ve ever wanted from a bralette: comfort, style, and most importantly, support.

Here at Cashmerette, we’re the big boob experts, and your boobs are in good hands.

Note: This is not required for the Willowdale Bra

An incorrectly fitting center insert may result in:

  • boobs being pulled inwards awkwardly,
  • boobs spreading out to the sides too much,
  • sagging of the boobs.

You can also adjust the center insert height depending on your preference for support and coverage. A higher neckline will give more coverage and more support.

Adjusting the height of the center front insert

The center front insert comes with two different neckline heights. Which height you use will depend on how your boobs sit on your body and how much support and coverage you want. But really you are not limited by these two options, you can choose a neckline anywhere between these two heights, just draw a line from the top corner to the center front at the height that you want.

Adjusting the width of the center front insert

If your boobs are being awkwardly pulled inwards, start by ripping the center front seam from the top down, lowering the front neckline until you feel like the bra cups are sitting in the correct place on your body. You can then measure how far the center insert pieces have pulled apart and determine how much extra width you need. Alternatively if your boobs are spreading too far to the sides you can pin the center front seam in closer.

As you can see this can result in moving the center front point higher or lower, but again this can be modified to your preferences by changing the neckline angle along with the width.

Adjusting the neckline

If you find that the neckline of the center insert is gaping you can modify the length of the neckline.

Pinch out the excess fabric on your muslin. Depending on how much of an adjustment is required, you may only need to change the center front insert, or you may need to extend this dart into the inner cup as well.

Mark your cup pieces as shown below using the locations and measurements taken from your muslin.

If only the center insert is affected. If both center front and inner front affected.

Overlap the pattern pieces by the required amount and true all seams.

If only the center insert is affected. If both center front and inner front affected.

If you are adjusting the inner front, you will also need to take the same amount out of the length of neckline elastic that you use.
