Today we’re going to assemble the hem and neckline facings for both views of the Cedar Dolman Top. The neckline is the same for both, so let’s start with that one.

Start by applying fusible interfacing following the manufacturer instructions to the wrong side of the front and back neckline facings and the front and back hem facings (we didn’t interface the silk version so it wouldn’t be too stiff). Pin the front and back neckline facings together at the shoulder seams, right sides together. Sew, finish the seam allowance, and press open or to the front.

Finish the outer edge of the neck facing by serging or turning to the wrong side by 1/4” and topstitching in place.

Now, let’s assemble the waistband facing, starting with the tie front. Assemble the tie front facing by pinning the two front facings together at the top of the center, above the tie, stopping at the notch.

Sew this seam from the top of the facing to the notch. Finish the seam allowances and press open or to the right.

For both the tie and no-tie versions, pin the front facing to the back facing at the side seams. Sew these seams, finish the seam allowances, and press open or to the front.

Finish the upper edge of the facing by serging or turning to the wrong side by 1/4” and topstitching in place.
