Activewear Sewalong: Spruce Tank Day 1

Today we’re going to start by assembling both the front and back of our Spruce Workout Tanks. This is in a slightly different order than the instructions so we can finish the front and back necklines in one go next time.

Start by pinning one side front to the center front, right sides together, along the princess seam, matching notches. If you want to color block and have a double sided fabric, you can play around with what your “right side” is. For this one, I used the light green as the right side of the center and the bright green as the right side of the side pieces.

Sew this seam with the front side piece down against the feed dogs, easing the side in between the notches. Finish the seam allowance if necessary and press towards the center. Repeat this with the second front side piece.

Now, let’s assemble the back of our Cedar Workout Tank. Pin one side back to the center back piece, matching notches. Again, I used the light green as the right side of the center back and the bright green as the right side of the side back.

Sew this seam, finish seam allowance if necessary, and press towards the center. Repeat with the second side back piece.

Now, let’s attach the back yoke. Pin the yoke along the upper edge of the assembled lower back, right sides together, matching notches. (I used the light green as the right side of this piece.)

Sew the yoke seam, finish the seam allowance if necessary, and press down towards the lower back.

That’s it for today! Tomorrow, we’ll be applying Fold Over Elastic to the front and back necklines to finish them.

Let me know what you think!
