A knit tank is a wardrobe essential, but when you’re curvy or plus size, it can be hard to find a tank that fits your bust and covers your bra completely. But now you can sew that perfect knit tank you’ve aways dreamed about: introducing the Cashmerette Saybrook Tank! This brand-new tank sewing pattern is available in sizes 12-32 and the Cashmerette signature multi-cup sizing, C-H.
Knit tanks are total wardrobe workhorses: they keep us cool in summer or while being active, they’re an important base layer under sheer garments, and they pair perfectly with all bottoms, from skinny jeans to maxi skirts to high-waisted wide leg trousers (ahem, Calders). But finding a fitted tan or cami that you love, whether in ready-to-wear shops or sewing patterns, can be really hard when you’re plus size. We’re tired of feeling uncomfortable wearing ill-fitting tanks and having to constantly adjust our bra straps. Enough is enough!
The Saybrook Tank is a plus size tank sewing pattern designed for curves with three views. We recommend using light- to mid-weight knits with at least 25% stretch, such as jersey or rib knits, and you can totally sew one up on a regular sewing machine—no serger required. The Saybrook doesn’t require a lot of yardage, so chances are you already have fabric in your stash that will pair beautifully with this pattern, but if you’re looking to pick up something new for your first Saybrook (or just want an excuse to peruse the online fabric shops—um, always!), keep an eye out for an upcoming roundup of fabric ideas as well as a special collaboration with our friends at Stonemountain & Daughter.
The Saybrook is available as a PDF pattern that you can download instantly, or as a printed pattern that you can pre-order (expected to ship in late September). As a special offer, if you pre-order the printed pattern, you’ll get the PDF pattern right away for free! (Offer valid until we have the printed Saybrook Tank patterns in stock.) New to PDFs? About the Saybrook Tank
The Saybrook Tank is the ideal tank that you can sew up in an afternoon and wear the rest of the weekend. (It takes us less than 90 minutes to cut and sew a Saybrook!) Throw one on anytime to complete your look: whether it’s a one-of-a-kind accent piece or a neutral backdrop for the rest of your outfit, this is one pattern you’ll want to make and wear again and again.
As we recently announced, our sewing patterns now have the high bust measurement included, and you can use our new size chart to select your cup size, or if you already have your ideal size in Cashmerette patterns, you can keep on using that!
Knot Your Average Tank
Let’s take a closer look at View A. This view has a high scoop neck and a high back with a fun knot at the hem. Don’t be intimidated—this bit is super easy to sew. It’s basically a swoop in the hem (we’ve taken to calling it a dongle around the studio for some inexplicable reason) which means you can knot away without stretching out your top or cinching it uncomfortably tight. Pair View A with a Holyoke Maxi Skirt for a casual but chic look.

The Perfect Curve-Friendly Camisole
A camisole can be a wardrobe lifesaver: you sew up a lovely top (like the Montrose) only to discover when you put it on that it’s semi sheer. (Yup, definitely happened to us before.) Cami to the rescue!
View B of the Saybrook is a cami-style tank with low scoop neck and a low back. It works super well as a base layer under sheer garments or on its own. If you’re trying to soak up as much sun as possible before summer winds down, this is the view for you. We love how it looks tucked into the Calder Shorts or the Calder Pants.
