Appleton Sewalong Day 6: Sewing the Sleeves

We are in the home stretch of the Appleton sewalong friends! We’ll be wrapping up (ha!) the sewing of our Appleton Dresses this week.

Okay, now back to work. Today we’ll be sewing in our sleeves. Start by laying out your dress totally flat with the right side facing up. Place your sleeve on top, right sides together, matching the center notch with the shoulder seam and with the sleeve facing in towards the dress. At this point, double check that you’re using the correct sleeve by making sure your other notches line up (single notches at the front of the sleeve, double notches at the back.)

Pin around the remainder of the armhole, lining up notches and edges. You’ll have to stretch the armhole gently to fit the shape of the sleeve head.

Sew this seam slowly, making sure there aren’t any puckers as you go. Repeat for the other side. Press the seam allowances towards the sleeve, using a ham if you have one to maintain the curve.

And that’s it for today!
