Staples are good for you

As previously referenced, 90% of my clothes are wrap dresses.

So here’s another one! I’ve slowly become better at this pattern, such is the benefit of doing the same thing again, and again… This time, some jersey from Gorgeous Fabrics. I used a t-shirt style banding around the neckline, a variety of interfacing, and I also adapted the pattern to be a mere three pattern pieces (there was previously a waistline but given none of my ready to wear had one, I thought there wasn’t much point).

And here’s a photo on one of the last warm days of the year with my new Duo boots.

Bless you Jenny for linking to your blog in Mary’s comments! I’ve been reading through your blog – are you originally from Seattle? Obviously living in Boston. I loved Boston when we visited.

May I ask what pattern this wrap dress is? I love it! I’m totally going to knock off some of your ideas. g

Thanks! I’m actually originally from Scotland, but been living in Boston for the last 7 years – I love it here 🙂

My wrap dress is from Christine Jonson – http://www.cjpatterns.com/WrapDress526.htm.

I’ve never actually made anything else from her patterns – I bought it way back when I’d never heard of any of the big or indie sewing companies and I was just googling for patterns! However, I really like it, and now I’ve reduced down the pieces (getting rid of the waist seam), I can pretty much make one in an evening. Oh, and I don’t do the self-lining in the bodice – I’ve tried binding, but most recently I’ve been using a t-shirt band type finish which goes on really quickly and looks great. Look forward to seeing your version!

    Jenny,
I don’t know and I feel already indebted to you. I’ve been admiring your boots for the last few posts. I was just about to ask where you purchased them because they are beautiful. I’m so thrilled that DUO makes boots in my size (I have very large calves). Thank you, thank you!

You’re welcome! I’m a huge fan of Duo – these are the Rocky boots. They have very reasonable shipping to the US as well…

Sold! I am going to order the patter. I’ve longed for a DVF wrap dress but could not justify the cost. But, I am sew anxious that I’ll pick the wrong type of fabric. Any particular recommendations? Bear in mind, that I’ll be running the local Joann for fabric – will have to save and get the ‘good stuff’ next time I am in NYC. I really do enjoy your blog.

Let me know what you think!
