Jen’s Selwyn Top

Boasting a beguiling combination of pattern, pintucks and ruffles, Jen’s Selwyn is a botanical-inspired summer dream. She chose a rayon in a whimsical garden print giving her blouse a polished yet playful vibe. She made a size 24 at the shoulders graded to a 28 G/H at the bust.

Her measurements are 48” high bust, 56” full bust, 48” waist, and 57” hips.

Here’s what Jen had to say about her Selwyn Top:

I was really excited to make a summer top with both ruffles AND pintucks!!! This pattern looks awesome in printed fabric like mine, but would also be stunning in a single colour; there’s so much visual interest in this top. The pintucks were easier than I imagined they would be, but the collar gave me a little trouble. Can’t wait to make another as an easy summer dress!”

Amanda’s Selwyn Top

From subdued to sassy, Amanda elevated her Selwyn Top from button-up basic to a beautiful and boisterous blouse with the use of pintucks and ruffle sleeves. Not only is this a fun top for any occasion, it was an enjoyable project in which she could try her hand at pintucks. Sporting an Atelier Brunette modal, Jen sewed hers in a size 18 C/D.

Her measurements are 43” high bust, 46” full bust, 36” waist, and 47” hips.

Amanda shared this about her Selwyn Top:

“It was fun (and easy thanks to the detailed instructions) learning how to sew pintucks. Combine those with the ruffle sleeves and what could be a regular button-up is elevated to something sassy!”

Michelle’s Selwyn Top

Michelle took a walk on the wild side with her Selwyn and we can’t get enough! She sewed hers in a 20 C/D and chose a Nerida Hansen print on cotton satin that gives her blouse a pop of color and pizzazz. She enjoyed the skill-building aspect of this make including the buttons, pintucks, and shoulder princess seams and she particularly appreciated how the Selwyn can be paired with pieces from other patterns.

Her measurements are 45” high bust, 48” full bust, 41” waist, and 51” hips.

Michelle had this to say about her Selwyn Top:

“This is a great skill building pattern as you get experience with buttons/buttonholes, pintucks and shoulder princess seams. The instructions are very clear and it can be paired with pieces from other patterns. A very enjoyable sew.”

Caroline W’s Selwyn Top

Caroline’s pink Selwyn is making our heart skip a beat. We particularly love the heart shaped buttons! She was equally delighted by the Selwyn’s lantern sleeves from the Vernon Shirt and the fact that it’s gape-free at the bust. She chose a cheerful pink designer deadstock cotton chambray that gives it a lightweight yet polished feel. She sewed hers in a size 22 C/D graded to a size 24 in the waist and hips and she used the Vernon lantern sleeves.

Her measurements are 46” high bust, 48” full bust, 44” waist, and 55” hips.

Here’s what Caroline had to say about her Selwyn Top:

“Sewing and wearing the Selwyn was a delight! I love that I could use my favorite sleeves ever: the lantern sleeves from the Vernon Shirt. And with all Cashmerette patterns: there is absolutely no gaping with the button up, making the shirt very comfortable to wear!”

Lolie’s Selwyn Top

It’s Lolie’s luxurious lightweight viscose Selwyn! Featuring delicate florals and a ruffle sleeve, this Selwyn is both elegant and fashionable. Lolie loved that the pattern fit her right out of the envelope, and we have to say that makes us giddy with happiness too. It’s the perfect top to add interest and appeal to any outfit and she’s already planning to sew more. She made a size 14 E/F graded to a 16 at the waist and hips.

Her measurements are 38.5” high bust, 43” full bust, 36” waist, and 46” hips (44″ standing).

Lolie shared this about her Selwyn:

“Sewing and wearing the Selwyn have been really agreeable. First off, the pattern fit me right out of the “envelope” except some grading, which was really impressive as I always have to do a forward neck and shoulders adjustment as well as an FBA. Felt luxurious! After that, sewing was fairly easy and the instructions were well done, it was easy to follow and not confusing at all. I can see myself making more Selwyns in my future. I have a dress hack ready to go even!”

Lolie loved her Selwyn Top so much that she was inspired to create an A-line influenced Selwyn Dress! She made her dress in a cotton single gauze in a size 14 E/F graded to 16 at the waist and hips, lengthened by 20″ in the front and 23.5″ in the back. She explains, “I draw a curve from front to back in dresses to account for the seated position.” She then had to go in and make the hip curve less dramatic by shaving a bit off by drawing a straight diagonal line from the waist to 8.5″ from the hem, and curving it a bit for an A-line look. She also added a pintuck in the back at waist level for a fun wink to the front.

Her measurements are seated: 38.5” high bust, 42.5” full bust, 36.5” waist, and 47” hips. Standing: 34” waist, and 44” hips.

Lolie had this to share about her Selwyn Dress:

“I absolutely adore this dress, it is elegant and feels like secret pajamas.”

Holy crepe! Caroline’s Vernon shirt is a beam of sunshine and a perfectly vibrant addition to any wardrobe. This sunny and sensational take on the classic button-up features a traditional collar, lantern sleeves, and a whole lot of style. She chose a lovely yellow crepe and sewed hers in a size 18 C/D graded to a 20 at the waist. Either paired casually with jeans or a skirt for a fun and bold look, this shirt can do it all.

Her measurements are 32” high bust, 35” full bust, 27” waist, and 38” hips.

A top that’s both fashion forward and comfortable? Count us in.

All of these tops look wonderful! Thanks for posting all the different poses (sitting, hair up etc.). It makes it easier to visualize what my finished project would look like. I especially liked the Vernon sleeves hack. I was thinking of making a shirt without a collar and now I know what that would look like. Well done everyone!

Let me know what you think!
