Work out without compromise—that’s the promise of our new Somerville Sports Bra sewing pattern, and curvy sewists are proving it’s a promise that delivers! We asked six makers to put their own spin on the Somerville, and we loved seeing how each of them made it their own.

Designed by industry experts specifically for big boobs, the Somerville features underwired cups in 120+ sizes from 28C to 54J, a front zip for easy on-and-off, and two back options including a sporty cut-out design. Finally, a sports bra designed for full busts that gives you the support you deserve!

Kirsty’s Somerville Sports Bra

Kirsty made a Somerville in purple leopard print lingerie satin and managed to source all her fittings in a matching lavender—we are obsessed. The result is supportive, comfortable, and statement-worthy enough to wear without a T-shirt on top.

She made a size 34G and her measurements are full bust 42″ (107 cm) and under bust 35″ (89 cm).

Courtney’s Somerville Sports Bra

Courtney told us that she hasn’t worn a wired bra for longer than a few hours in over six years — but the Somerville might just change that. She wore it while working from home and almost forgot she had it on!

Courtney made a size 40H and her measurements are full bust 47½” (120.5 cm) and under bust of 40½” (103 cm).  She used yarn-dyed plaid linen and she’s already envisioning it as a crop top with a Holyoke Skirt.

Christina’s Somerville Sports Bra

Christina told us she loves how the Somerville encapsulates rather than just smashes things down — the support is fantastic, the back is great for ventilation, and the front hook makes getting it on a dream.

Christina made a size 36H and her measurements are full bust 45″ (114 cm) and under bust  37″ (94 cm).

Her tip: transfer all your marks using a washable marker, and if the seam allowance isn’t lining up perfectly, take it out and try again — precision really pays off with bras.

Shelley’s Somerville Sports Bra

Shelley bench-tested her Somerville on a 5K run and was genuinely surprised by how comfortable a wired sports bra could be. And as she told us, “I may also just wear it as an every day bra any time I want the treat of a front closure rather than having to wrestle behind me.”

Shelley made a size 36C and her measurements are full bust of 39½” (100 cm) and under bust 36″ (91.5 cm).

Pro tip: she left the channeling open at one end so the wires are removable.

Samantha’s Somerville Sports Bra

Samantha turned her Somerville into a showstopper with rainbow gingham quilting cotton, then challenged herself to pattern match every piece around curves — drawing the check lines directly onto her pattern pieces as a map.

Samantha made a size 36J and her measurements are full bust 47″ (120 cm) and under bust 38″ (96 cm). She styled it with her Stanton Hoodie in stretch velvet — now that is an outfit!

Tiffaney’s Somerville Sports Bra

Tiffaney made her Somerville from an upcycled t-shirt and describes the cup construction as sewing magic: pieces layering together with no exposed seams and everything landing exactly where it should. And she’s already planning to hack the Somerville into a one-piece swimsuit with a statement zipper—we can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Tiffaney made a size 42C and her measurements are full bust 46″ (117 cm) and under bust 42″ (107 cm).
