The Brookhaven Sweatshirt is the polo sweatshirt sewing pattern that’s actually designed for curves! We asked four makers to put their own spin on the Brookhaven—keep reading to get inspired to sew your own.

Say hello to the Brookhaven, a sweatshirt designed for everyday comfort with a sporty edge. It’s a polo-style pullover that combines the ease of a sweatshirt with the polished look of a collar and button placket. The pattern offers both regular and full bicep options, and you can customize it with ribbed or self-fabric bands at the collar, cuffs, and hem. Whether you’re running errands, meeting friends for coffee, or just lounging at home, the Brookhaven gives you that casual, put-together look that works anywhere.

Melissa’s Brookhaven Sweatshirt
Melissa loves the “toddlercore” style, and decided to add some whimsy to her Brookhaven! She used a special jersey from her stash—a gift from Japan—with minimal stretch and a weight between sweatshirt fleece and t-shirt knit, and added a contrast fabric for the collar and cuffs.
She made a 18 G/H graded out to a 22 at the waist. She used the full bicep sleeve option and added 2.5″ of length at the bottom instead of using the waistband. Her measurements are 41″ (104cm) high bust, 48″ (122cm) full bust, 42″ (107cm) waist, and 50″ (127cm) hips.

Lisa’s Brookhaven Sweatshirt
Lisa took the Brookhaven in a different direction, transforming it into the perfect summer sweatshirt! She replaced the placket and collar with a crew neckband, shortened the bodice and added a fun sleeve ruffle. She also added some reverse appliqué using embroidery thread and scrap fabric for extra personality. Living in a climate that’s summer for nine months of the year, Lisa plans to wear her Brookhaven with shorts and use the stripes as a neutral to work in some strong pattern clash combinations.
Lisa made a size 12 C/D graded to a 16. Her measurements are 37″ (93cm) high bust, 39″ (98cm) full bust, 33″ (83cm) waist, and 42″ (107cm) hips.
Lisa’s top tip: Enjoy the process and don’t be afraid to change things up. A well-drafted pattern is the perfect base to start from.

Courtney’s Brookhaven Sweatshirt
Courtney chose a dark blue polyester/spandex with a Polartec fleece grid on the reverse side for her Brookhaven, creating a shirt that’s surprisingly warm despite being thin. She paired it with a cotton/lycra rib knit for the collar, cuffs, and hem bands.
She made a size 18 G/H and her measurements are 41.5″ (105cm) high bust, 47.5″ (121cm) full bust, 39″ (99cm) waist, and 47″ (119cm) hips. She loves how the Brookhaven has given her a casual, sporty shirt that can still look put together while being comfortable. As she notes, “Being able to sew has expanded my style immensely because I doubt I would have bought this shirt from ready-to-wear.”
She’s planning to style it with jeans and winter boots for a casual look, or go full preppy-vibe with a white denim Osgood skirt and white sneakers.

Anna’s Brookhaven Sweatshirt
Anna made a quick and satisfying Brookhaven using cotton rib knit fabric for both the main fabric and the ribbing. This was her first time sewing buttonholes on knit fabric—and she found it wasn’t as intimidating as she thought!
Anna made a size 24 C/D cup with the full bicep option, and her measurements are 48″ (122cm) high bust, 53″ (135cm) full bust, 47″ (119cm) waist, and 56″ (142cm) hips.
Anna’s top tip: Use tear away stabilizer when sewing the buttonholes. It makes all the difference!
