The Osgood Skirt is the new skirt that goes with everything! We asked four makers to put their own spin on the Osgood, and we loved seeing how they each made it their own!

Say hello to the Osgood, a skirt designed to go everywhere. It’s an A-line midi with a twist: an adjustable side slit that lets you choose your look via a hidden button placket. Bold topstitching and a decorative waistband belt with slider give it sophisticated polish, while deep pockets and a back elastic panel keep it practical and comfortable. Dress it up with a crisp white shirt and heels, or down with your coziest sweater and sneakers—the Osgood is the skirt you’ll reach for again and again.

Lisa’s Osgood Skirt
Lisa used a linen-cotton duvet cover to make her Osgood, and customized it by adding rick rack trim in places instead of topstitching, giving her skirt a playful, vintage-inspired touch! She even sewed a little label between the buttons on the hidden placket for “a cheeky little pop of handmade fun.”
Lisa made a size 12 and her measurements are 33″ (83cm) waist and 42″ (106cm) hip. Her top tip? If you’re using plain-colored fabric, mark which is the right and wrong side and keep pieces attached to their pattern pieces until you need them.

Melissa’s Osgood Skirt
For her skirt, Melissa chose a Ruby Star Society canvas print, which gave her skirt a fun, retro vibe. She leaned into the “1970s hostess skirt” aesthetic, styling it with a turtleneck and boots.
Melissa made a size 24 and her measurements are 43″ (109cm) waist 51″ (130cm) hip.
As a shorter person who usually shies away from midi-length skirts, Melissa was pleasantly surprised by how much she liked the final result. The little details, she said, “elevate the design and make me look like a more accomplished maker than I am!”

Samatha’s Osgood Skirt
Samantha chose an embroidered border cotton drill for her Osgood, and she loved her skirt so much that she used the remaining fabric to create a matching Catskills Jacket!
Samantha sewed a size 18 and her measurement are 39″ (99cm) waist and 47″ (119cm) hip. She left off some of the topstitching since her fabric was quite thick, and she shared a brilliant tip for the concealed button stand: mark the fold lines directly onto the interfaced side with pen, then sew along them with a long stitch length from the wrong side. This makes it easy to press the lines accurately, and the stitches can be pulled out afterward.
She styled her Osgood with a black linen Harrison Shirt tied at the waist for an effortlessly chic look.

Anna’s Osgood Skirt
Anna made a delightful monochrome Osgood in cotton twill with adorable houndstooth print buttons. She loves that the Osgood can be a transitional piece from work to evening events, and she plans to style it with a long-sleeve top, clutch bag, and kitten heels for a polished look.
Anna made a size 26 and her measurements are 48″ (122cm) waist and 56″ (142cm) hip.

My personal feeling: I don’t care for gathers showing in the back of pants or skirts as they make the lady look larger.
These makes are stunning! I love the chic black-and-white look from Anna and I’m absolutely gobsmacked by the stunning coordinated ensemble from Samantha in that lovely border print. In the final photograph, she’s wearing a gorgeous jacket that matches the skirt – what pattern did she use to make that?
That’s the Catskills Jacket!
Hi Angie
She made my absolute favorite quick sew jacket, The Catskills Jacket. It’s cut and sewn on the bias which takes a little more fabric, but so worth it. I’ve made several. All the makes were pretty and I am itching to get started on making mine. Be sure to post yours when it’s done!
