Introducing the Ellington Strapless Dress Sewing Pattern

Cashmerette turns 10 today! We’re celebrating in style with a revolutionary new pattern: the Ellington Dress, our very first strapless dress designed for big boobs.

When I first set up Cashmerette, I had a rule: no patterns that can’t be worn with a regular bra. That’s because I’d never found a strapless one that worked for me, and I wanted everything we made to be wearable by anyone. Well, you know what happened earlier this year: we managed to create a gravity-defying strapless bra, the Symmes Strapless Bra! And then, a whole new world of possibilities opened up.

So here we are, introducing the Ellington Dress: a stunning strapless boned evening gown that works gorgeously for big boobs. And if strapless isn’t your style? Well, we have three strap options for you, too! As if that wasn’t enough, it also mixes and matches with our existing Upton line (the Upton, Mansfield and Gilmore), giving you literally hundreds of combinations to finally create that dream gown you’ve been Pinterest-ing for years. (And an extra bonus: you’ll get all the sizes from 0-32 with your purchase).

Ten years in, and we’re still finding new ways to make the impossible possible. Here’s to breaking rules – especially the ones you made yourself!

The Ellington Dress is available to all to purchase (no subscription required!) as a standalone PDF pattern in sizes 0-32.

Rachel  is wearing the Ellington with removable spaghetti straps. Her Ellington is made with silk twill from Gorgeous Fabrics, with a pongee lining. She is wearing a size 18 G/H. Under her Ellington, she is wearing a Cashmerette Symmes Bra in size 38I. Her measurements are high bust 43” (109 cm), full bust 48” (122 cm), waist 38” (94 cm), hip 48” (122 cm) and she’s 5’ 5”.
Morgan is wearing the Ellington bodice with removable tie straps, combined the Gilmore Skirt (Club pattern, available separately with subscription). Her Ellington was made with silk-blend twill mikado from Gorgeous Fabrics. She is wearing a size 20 G/H, 24 waist and 28 hip, and the dress was lengthened. Under her Ellington, she is wearing a Cashmerette Symmes Bra in size 42H. Her measurements are 45” high bust (114 cm), 50” full bust (127 cm), 44.5” waist (113 cm), and 58” hip (147 cm), and she is 5’ 10”.
Carrie is wearing the Ellington with removable swags. Her Ellington is made with silk twill from Gorgeous Fabrics.  She is wearing a size 8 E/F graded to a 10 waist and hip. Her measurements are 33.5” high bust (85 cm), 37” full bust (94 cm), 31.5” waist (80 cm), and 40 hip (102 cm), and she is 5’ 4”.

Fabric for your Ellington Dress

The Ellington is ready for your very fanciest of light- to mid-weight woven fabrics, from silks and satins to brocades and jacquards. Want something a bit more down-to-earth? Cotton poplin or linen will also make a fabulous dress.

I can’t quite believe it’s been 10 years since I launched the Appleton Dress (still a best-selling icon!) and I can’t think of any better way to celebrate our anniversary, by doing something I didn’t even dream could be possible. The biggest thanks to my team: Jen, Ayelet and Carrie (with a major shout-out to honorary member Betsy), without whom it would literally not have been possible.

Celebrate our anniversary by sharing your amazing Ellington, and tag us with #EllingtonDress and #CashmeretteIs10!

Happy sewing,

Jenny
