With our next Sloper School session starting soon, we’re sharing inspiring stories from our first cohort of students!
When Karen joined our inaugural Cashmerette Sloper School, she had a heartfelt mission: to create a well-fitting sloper for her daughter. After multiple previous attempts that left her frustrated, Karen was determined to solve the fit issues her daughter experiences, which are all-too-common particularly for plus size sewists.
What followed was a fantastic journey of learning and success that transformed not just a pattern, but the wardrobe possibilities for her daughter! As we prepare to welcome our next cohort of Sloper School students, Karen’s story shows how this program can help sewists of all experience levels create that elusive perfect fit for themselves or their loved ones. Keep reading to discover their transformation and how you could achieve similar results in our upcoming session!
What were you hoping to achieve by joining our first ever Cashmerette Sloper School?
I wanted to give my daughter a sloper that actually fit well without pulling at the side seams and under the bust. I have tried making her a sloper several times and never could get one to fit well (till now!)

The final sloper fit:
How did you find the process of creating and refining the sloper for your daughter?
I liked taking it one step at a time instead of trying to figure out everything all at once. Just concentrating on one area and not worrying about the other areas made fixes simpler. And having feedback from Jenny and others was amazing — they were able to provide solutions that I would have never thought of. It did require quite a bit of time, but I was glad to do that to achieve a good fit.
The first sloper, without any changes (an amazing start, thanks to the Wyman’s design for curves!)
The final sloper fit:
What would you advise anyone thinking of participating in Sloper School?
Absolutely participate! It was very helpful and the videos and live feedback had very good information, some of which I had never heard before, even though I’ve been sewing and drafting patterns for decades.
What would be your top tip for going through Sloper School?
Make sure you carve out some time during the class to work on the sloper often. Small changes can be made right on the existing sloper, but it’s not uncommon to have to cut out a new one with a major change — for me, I made at least 4 completely new ones before I got the final fit. But the final fit is well worth it!
Thank you so much Karen and to your daughter for her very game participation in the whole course! I love having you in the Live Fit Clinics, and I’m so glad your daughter has an awesome base pattern now for a whole new wardrobe.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience, and please thank your dear daughter for sharing pictures wearing the amazing sloper. I am on the fence about participating – do I have the time right now? – but seeing you fix some fitting issues that I have too (swayback!) gives me the boost I need to make the time.
