I’ve always known that the Cashmerette community loves coats – but it’s clear that they adore plaids and ginghams too! Hence this delightful line up of geometric Newcomb Coats made by our gorgeous Cashmerette Club collaborator team. Now excuse me, while I’m off to make the gingham Newcomb Coat of my dreams…
The Newcomb Coat is a darted lined coat and comes in sizes 0 – 32, as well as Cashmerette’s signature C – H cup sizes. It features a chic collar, angled flap pockets, optional bound buttonholes, a back button tab, and a handy internal pocket in the lining. Elevated and timeless style, the Newcomb is the essential coat pattern for your collection. Not a member yet? Rhi’s Newcomb
There are only two words for Rhi’s pink and red Newcomb: utterly fabulous. As she noted, it’ll go with everything – and she particularly enjoyed the lining pockets: “it’s rare for ready to wear women’s coats to have internal pockets included, but they really elevate the coat’s design”. Rhi’s measurements are 36” high bust, 41” full bust, 33” waist, and 39” hips (92 cm high bust, 106 full bust, 86 cm waist, 101 cm hips), and she made a 12 G/H.

Jessica’s Newcomb
Plaid *and* color-blocking?! Jessica managed to somehow make a wool coat that’s both classic and totally fun at the same time – amazing. She loved the “impeccable drafting” and noted that once you’ve done the prep-work, sewing it up is faster than you think. Jessica’s measurements are 40.5” high bust, 44” full bust, 39” waist, and 50” hips (102 cm high bust, 111 full bust, 99 cm waist, 127 cm hips), and she made a 16 C/D bust graded to an 18 waist and 20 hip.

Basma’s Newcomb
Basma told herself she wouldn’t make any more coats but couldn’t say no to this pattern – I know the feeling! (#teamcoat). Now she’s got a lovely Newcomb complete with bound buttonholes (her top tip: watch the sewalong!) to add to her collection. Basma’s measurements are 52” high bust, 57” full bust, 51” waist, and 61” hips (132 cm high bust, 144 full bust, 129 cm waist, 154 cm hips), and she made a 30 G/H.

Courtney’s Newcomb
Think you can only use heavy wools for your Newcomb? Think again! Courtney used a brushed tartan plaid cotton for hers, and she says “it’s perfect for mild fall days.. and it’s heavy enough to stay warm without overheating”. Courtney’s measurements are 41.5” high bust, 47.5” full bust, 39” waist, and 46” hips (105 cm high bust, 120 full bust, 99 cm waist, 116 cm hips) and she made a size 18 G/H.

Jocie’s Newcomb
The Newcomb is a great first coat project, as Jocie can attest! She made a lightweight version in flannel that’s perfect for fall. Jocie’s measurements are 34” high bust, 36” full bust, 30” waist, and 40” hips (86 cm high bust, 91 full bust, 76 cm waist, 101 cm hips), and she made a 10 C/D.

As an intermediate level sewer I’m looking for jacket patterns with easy to install linings and collars. I’m finding out that there are multiple techniques for sewing collars and linings, with varying levels of difficulty. How can I find out about these details of your jacket patterns before buying?
I watched the sew-a-long and it shows you step by step what to expect and exactly how to do it. It’s a game changer!
You can check out the blog post about this pattern, or watch the video sewalong to see how it’s constructed!
