Cashmerette Club: Meet the Newcomb Coat, the Club pattern for November

A coat with a classic silhouette that fits beautifully is an essential part of any sewist’s pattern collection, so this month I’m thrilled to introduce you to the Newcomb Coat, November’s Cashmerette Club pattern.

Coats are notoriously hard to buy in stores if you have a large bust. Want to be able to breathe easily? Everything else will have to be oversized. Want to actually fit the rest of your body? Well, you’ll have to limit your breathing as a compromise… Luckily for us, we sew! And the Newcomb Coat, in Cashmerette’s signature C – H cup sizes, is an elevated and timeless style which is actually designed for curves.

The Newcomb Coat comes in sizes 0 – 32, and cup sizes C – H, and it’s exclusively available to Cashmerette Club members. Not a member yet? Join today at the All Access level to get the Newcomb Coat.

Michelle’s measurements are high bust 48” (121 cm), full bust 52” (132 cm), waist 48” (121 cm) and hip 57” (144 cm), and she’s 5’6”. She’s wearing a size 22 G/H graded to a 28 waist and hip.  Her Newcomb Coat is made from a plaid wool blend, and bemberg lining, from Fabric Place Basement, Natick MA.

Jenny’s measurements are high bust 43” (109 cm), full bust 48” (121 cm), waist 40” (101 cm), hip 45” (114 cm) and she’s 5’6”. She’s wearing a size 18 G/H. Her Newcomb Coat is made from a purple heathered wool blend, and bemberg lining, from Fabric Place Basement, Natick MA.

Carrie’s measurements are high bust 34” (86 cm), full bust 38” (96 cm), waist 31” (78 cm), hip 39” (99 cm) and she’s 5’4”.  She’s wearing a 8 E/F graded to a 10 at the waist. Her Newcomb Coat is made from a green heathered wool blend, and bemberg lining, from Fabric Place Basement, Natick MA.

More from the Club this month

Do you get frustrated when fitting, because even though you used the right measurements, your garment is too small in the front but too big in the back – or vice versa? Then you need to use half measurements! This more advanced fitting technique is the silver bullet for so many fitting issues – and once you’ve mastered the approach, it can speed up your fitting significantly.

In this month’s masterclass I’ll be teaching you how to take your half measurements and then use them to create a beautiful fit. Club masterclasses are one of the most popular parts of the Cashmerette Club, and they’re exclusive for Plus and All Access members, who get immediate access to the whole library of over 30 fitting video lessons.

Have you heard of MyBodyModel? It’s an amazing app (now part of the Cashmerette family), which lets you create a custom body outline which you can then use in tons of different ways to design, fit and record your wardrobe – and Cashmerette Club members get a big discount! In this month’s Club live event, I’ll be talking about all the great ways that you can use your croquis, and sharing tons of inspiration.

The event is taking place on Wednesday November 20 at 12pm EST/ 9am PST/ 5pm GMT/ Nov 21 @ 4am AEDT. And as always it’s recorded, so you can watch it later!

Whether you make a sophisticated solid Newcomb which will go with your whole wardrobe, or a showstopper in a bold print, the Newcomb is the essential coat pattern for your collection.  I love my purple Newcomb, and I can’t wait to see what you make too! Share your coat on social using  #NewcombCoat and #CashmeretteClub so I can give you a virtual high five!

Let me know what you think!
