The Fiske Camisole & Nightgown from the new Fiske Sleepwear Set is designed with a built-in wireless bra for fabulous support for big boobs. But what if you want to make a cami or nightgown without the bra? Keep reading to learn how!
The Fiske Sleepwear Set is the newest pattern in the Cashmerette Collection—and with this single pattern, you can make:
- A supportive cami or nightgown
- Curve-friendly long or short pajamas
- A gape-free nightshirt
- A cozy robe
- …and all with options to make them uniquely yours!
The Fiske Camisole and Nightgown pattern is designed with an internal bra that can be made from either bra lining fabrics or the same fabric as the outer camisole. But what if you want to make the camisole without the internal bra at all? Today, we’re showing you how to modify the pattern to omit the internal bra.
How to make the Fiske Camisole without the bra
The main challenge with omitting the internal bra is that it is used to finish the straps and back neckline. Without the bra, these edges are unfinished. So you can finish these sections by using a lining for the bodice portion of the camisole or nightgown instead.
To create a lined bodice camisole or nightgown, you’ll need the following pieces:
- #6 Back lining
- #7 Outer front bodice
- #8 Outer front insert
- #9 Lower front
- #10 Upper back and #11 lower back, taped together
Here’s what you’ll need to cut out:
- #6 Back lining: cut 1 on fold out of bodice lining
- #7 Outer front bodice: cut 2 out of main fabric and cut 2 out of bodice lining (note: Outer front bodice (7) pieces cut from lining will be referred to in these instructions as outer front bodice lining (7L).)
- #8 Outer front insert: cut 2 lace
- #9 Lower front : cut 1 on fold out of main fabric
- #10/#11 back: cut 1 on fold out of main fabric
Fabric requirements
The bodice lining can be made from either the same main fabric as the outer camisole, or it can be made from a thinner, softer material with similar stretch properties to your main fabric.
You will need the amount of fabric specified in the original instructions for:
- Main fabric – outer camisole/nightgown
- Lace
PLUS you will need additional lining fabric as specified below.

Cutting layouts
Use this cutting layout for all sizes and all fabric widths of the new bodice lining pieces. Follow Cutting Layouts in instructions for main fabric and lace.
Sewing instructions
- Sew bust darts in outer front bodice lining (7L) using a 2 – 2.5 mm long straight stitch. Press darts towards the side over a tailor’s ham or rolled up towel. Repeat for second outer front bodice lining (7L) piece.
From the Fiske Camisole/Nightgown instructions:
Skip to STEP 10 of SEW LINING CUPS. Use the assembled front bodice lining above in place of the assembled cups.
2. Follow STEPS 10, 11 & 12.
NOTE: The lining does not have a center insert section so the resulting lining will not be joined in the round.
3. Follow all steps of SEW OUTER CAMISOLE/NIGHTGOWN
ATTACH LINING TO OUTER CAMISOLE
- On one side of the outer camisole, fold the outer front insert (8) towards the outer front bodice (7) right sides together. Place the assembled lining inside the camisole, right sides together. Align the raw edges of the seam allowances between the outer front lining (7L) and the outer front insert (8) and the outer front bodice (7), aligning the tops of the straps and the notches.
2. Sew, using a 2 – 2.5 mm long straight stitch, through all layers from the top of the strap to the bottom of the center front lining (7L). NOTE: Sew slowly with the lining side down to avoid puckers in the outer strap.
Continue following Fiske Camisole/Nightgown Instructions from STEP 3 of ATTACH INNER BRA TO OUTER CONSOLE to end of instructions
FINISH THE LINING
- Finish the lower edge of the assembled lining if your fabric frays all the way around the lining. At the front, sew the lower edge of the outer front bodice lining (7L) to the seam allowance of the outer front bodice (7) to lower front (9) seam from side seam to side seam using a 0.5 mm wide x 2.5 mm long zigzag stitch. Be sure to sew only through the lining and seam allowance, not the outer front (fold lower front out of the way when sewing.)
NOTE: The back lining will not be secured at the lower edge.
Congratulations, your lined camisole/nightgown is complete!
Thanks for this! I couldn’t have figured out how to do it on my own and I’d love to make a slip for wearing under my clothes
