Cashmerette Club: Meet the Loring Dress, the Club Pattern for July

Where do you stand on the ruffle-o-meter? Avoid them like the plague, and prefer simple clean lines? Or are you a Ruffles To The Max type of sewist, and aspire to looking like a veritable explosion of ruffles whenever possible? Well either way, the Loring Dress, this month’s Cashmerette Club pattern, has you covered! It’s a breezy, flirty summer dress and with all the mix and match options you can design exactly the dress you’ve been dreaming of.

This is a past Cashmerette Club pattern, which you can download instantly today as a Cashmerette Club member on our yearly All Access level! To learn more and sign up, click here.

The Loring Dress is a floaty woven dress with a beautifully shaped V neckline, gored skirt with roomy pockets, options for sleeveless armscyes or sleeves, and an elasticated drawstring with fun tassels you can make yourself! And from that simple base, you can customize your Loring with ruffles at the neckline, skirt and sleeves.

The Loring comes in sizes 0 – 32, and cup sizes C – H and it’s exclusively available to Cashmerette Club members. Not a member yet? You can join today on our monthly or yearly plan – learn more by clicking the button below.

Meet the Loring Dress

Starting with the base of a simple woven V-neck dress with elegant lines, which you can make as-is, the Loring then has interchangeable options to achieve the precise level of ruffliness that’s calling to your soul.

Choose from:

  • A pretty ruffled tier around your skirt
  • Puffy ruffled sleeves to create your dream cottagecorelook
  • A gorgeous cascading ruffle down the bodice, for maximum drama

And as if that isn’t enough, there’s also a fun drawstring with tassels – with secret elastic which also makes it the most comfortable drawstring you’ve ever worn! – and, naturally, pockets. Of course, we try to think of everything, so we even have a nifty way of making the drawstring detachable so you don’t have to put the tassels through the washing machine.

The Loring is rated advanced beginner (due to the ruffles) but the ruffle-free basic dress is totally beginner friendly. You’ll even learn how to make your own tassels! If you want more help, no worries – we’ve also got a step-by-step video sewalong available.

Choosing the best fabric for your Loring

The Loring works best with lightweight but slightly crisp woven fabrics, to help you get beautiful ruffle definition. Great options for the Loring include lightweight linen, cotton poplin and cotton lawn. If you’re making the basic version, almost any light to midweight woven will work.

If you’re making your own tassels using our instructions (you totally should, it’s a lot of fun!), you’ll also need embroidery floss and some small beads. It’s a great way to get creative.

What else is new in the club this month?

This month’s Cashmerette Club masterclass is all about fitting knits – I’ll be taking you through the theory of why knits fit a bit differently, what you need to know about the different qualities of knit fabrics and how they affect fit, and fitting “cheats” for knits! Club masterclasses are one of the most popular parts of the Club, and they’re exclusively for Plus and All Access members, who get instant access to the entire library of masterclasses. Base members can upgrade at any time!

In July’s live event I’ll be talking about a topic near and dear to my heart: finding body acceptance through sewing. You probably already know this is a subject that I’m incredibly passionate about, and I will take any opportunity to talk about! In the live, I’ll take you through more of my story, what I’ve learned along the way, and give you tangible tips for how you can make progress on the journey towards accepting yourself just as you are. Please forgive me in advance if I get a bit choked up! The live event is on Wednesday, July 24 at 12pm EDT (9am PDT; 5pm BST; July 25th @ 2am AEST).

The Loring Dress is one of my favourite Cashmerette patterns this year – I just can’t say no to an elegant V neck or a swooshy maxi – and I hope you love it too! I can’t wait to see what you make – remember to tag your pics on social with #LoringDress and #Cashmerette Club.

(Joining after July 2024? You’ll need to sign up at the yearly All Access level to get the Loring Dress.)

Let me know what you think!
