Allison’s Brattle Top

Allison’s Brattle Top is both colorful and chic. She chose a bamboo jersey that gives her top a light and drapey feel. In a brilliant orange color, she took a simple tee and transformed it into a bold and stylish top with a cropped look, without the cropped exposure. What a vivacious addition to any wardrobe!

She sewed a size 18 and her measurements are 43” high bust, 48” full bust, 41” waist, and 48” hips.

Allison had this to say about her Brattle Top:

A simple sew that elevates a simple tee into a stylish top.  I love the twist detail, which gives a cropped top feel, without exposing any flesh.

Sarah’s Brattle Top

Simple and boat-y is how Sarah describes her Brattle Top and we’re loving it! With perfect short sleeves, a neckline that gives boat neck vibes while still covering her bra straps, and a classic fine rib knit, Sarah’s Brattle is a classic neutral yet elevated tee.

Sarah sewed a size 26 graded to 30 for waist and hips. Her measurements are 51.5” high bust, 55” full bust, 49” waist, and 59” hips.

Sarah shared this about her Brattle:

“The Brattle is not my first twist front knit top that I’ve made, but it was definitely the easiest to assemble! The instructions were clear with good illustrations taking the confusion out of the twist. The sleeves are a perfect short sleeve tee length, and the neckline is “boat-y” while still perfectly covering my bra.”

Samantha’s Brattle Tops

Samantha loved the Brattle so much that she made 4 different versions! Each version is delightful and unique in its own way and truly demonstrates how you can take this pattern and create a variety of looks and styles that will add dimension and depth to any wardrobe.

“I made 4 Brattles and the twist front was not hard at all to master. The design is excellent to manipulate and I love how the twist front gives the bust fullness without having to sew darts!”

Samantha’s autumn Brattle was made from an autumn patterned lurex found in her stash. It didn’t have as much stretch as suggested, so she sewed it in a size 18 but found it a bit snug around the hips. On this version she added a self drafted cowl drape neckline but kept the back neck as is. She also lengthened the top by adding 3” all around.

Her measurements are 43.5” high bust, 47.5” full bust, 41” waist, and 47.5” hips.

Samantha’s silver Brattle is a shimmery dream that she drafted on the Tobin sweater collar and sleeves and used a foiled knit fabric from her stash. The fabric had less stretch than suggested so learning from the autumn version, she sized up from a size 18 on the top half and graded out to a 22 on the bottom.

Her measurements are 43.5” high bust, 56.5” full bust, 41” waist, and 47.5” hips.

Samantha’s red Brattle was actually just a test run for the silver version but she has absolutely fallen in love with it even though she normally never wears red! Once again she drafted it on the Tobin sweater collar and sleeves and used a firm knit from her stash. This fabric once again had less stretch than suggested so she sewed a size 18 on the top half and graded out to a 22 on the bottom.

She paired her red Brattle with the Elmwood skirt and a pair of metallic stretch denim Ames jeans plus some RTW black pants and the PJ bottoms she made from another brand pattern. Her measurements are 43.5” high bust, 56.5” full bust, 41” waist, and 47.5” hips.

Samantha shared this about her red Brattle:

“I love love love my red Brattle, I never wear red but this top has so much impact I’ll wear it all the time!”

Samantha’s mint and lavender Brattle is brilliantly color blocked by adding seams in the center front and center back and is part of her PJ coordinates. She sewed this version in a size 18 and her measurements are 43.5” high bust, 56.5” full bust, 41” waist, and 47.5” hips.

Kacy’s Brattle Tops

Kacy was inspired to make two versions of her Brattle and we have to say that both of these variations are equally creative and stunning.

She made her beautiful blue patterned Brattle out of a lightweight cotton lycra and shortened it into a cute crop t-shirt with a spectacular fit that hugs her natural waist. This version can be paired casually with jeans or a skirt for a fun yet bold look.

She sewed this version in a size 14. Her measurements are 39” high bust, 47” full bust, 37” waist, and 48” hips.

Kacy also sewed a heavier green french terry version of her Brattle top complete with Carlyle t-shirt sleeves. This top is perfect as a layering piece in cooler weather. The best part for Kacy was that she was able to sew both of these in a few hours. One more reason to love the Brattle!

She also sewed this version in a size 14. Her measurements are 39” high bust, 47” full bust, 37” waist, and 48” hips.

Kacy shared this about her Brattle Tops:

A lovely easy sew, I put two of these together in a few hours. I shortened the pattern by three inches to turn it into a cute crop t-shirt that hugs my natural waist. My lightweight cotton lycra version is wonderful for wearing casually and my heavier weight french terry Brattle Top was mashed with some Carlyle T-Shirt sleeves as a layering piece for when the weather cools down here.”

Elise’s Brattle Top

Elise looks ravishing in her bright red Brattle! This bold, clean and contemporary take on the Brattle is giving us all the feels. She chose a red tencel jersey making this the perfect addition to her spring/summer wardrobe. The best part is that she was able to sew this lovely tee in about 2 hours. She has paired it with jeans and a corduroy Elmwood Skirt making this not only a fun summer staple but a versatile piece at that.

She sewed her Brattle in a size 14 and her measurements are 39” high bust, 42” full bust, 32” waist, and 44” hips.

Elise had this to say about her Brattle Top:

“I don’t sew to rush through building my wardrobe but sometimes, a quick make is just the thing. I’m in the middle of a very busy season right now and being able to make this tee in about 2 hours meant I could still be making something and adding to my spring/summer wardrobe. I found the instructions for how to make the twist to be very clear and it all went together well. This was the first time I’ve ever finished a neckline quite like this and I was glad that I had bought a tricot knit fusible interfacing! It makes it lay very nicely. I also styled it with jeans and another Elmwood Skirt in corduroy to which I added patch pockets.”

Bernice’s Brattle Top

A quick sew with a pop of pizzazz for spring is what Bernice was looking for and the Brattle Top fit the bill perfectly. She sewed a size 4 and chose a glint textured plaid print on cotton spandex French terry that gives a pleasing pop of spring color and texture. Her measurements are 33” high bust, 35” full bust, 30” waist, and 37” hips.
