How to finish the front pockets of the Meriam Trousers & Creston Jeans

The Meriam Trousers and Creston Jeans patterns feature an innovative flex waistband with some unique construction steps. In this tutorial, we’re showing you how to finish the front pockets of the Meriam or Creston when sewing the flex waistband.

Meet the Meriam Trousers: woven pants you’ll actually enjoy wearing. The Meriam has the classic details you love in a trouser: a zip fly with a hidden closure, front slash pockets, straight legs, and optional back welt pockets. But best of all, you’ll get a fabulously comfortable fit with a flex waistband that gently expands as you sit down, plus the option of a full bum adjustment piece, already done for you.

Classic woven trousers can be pretty uncomfortable if your waist spreads when you sit down—and whose doesn’t? Often your only options are to either make the trousers in a bigger size (and then they slip when you’re standing up!) or to use an elastic waistband. And while we love a good elastic waistband, it isn’t always the look you want.

So we’ve devised a flexible waistband that allows the waist of the Meriam Trousers to expand as you sit down. And it’s totally hidden for a clean finish that doesn’t take away from the sophistication of these trousers.
