The Appleton Dress, Now in Sizes 0-32!

Drumroll please… it’s our first ever pattern in our new full size range of 0 – 32! Introducing the Appleton Dress, now available in 0 – 16 and 12 – 32.

When it came to deciding which pattern to launch in our new 0 – 16 size range, I knew right away it had to be the Appleton. It was the first ever pattern from Cashmerette way back in 2015, and still one of our best-sellers to this day!

And is it any wonder? A knit wrap dress is just the absolute perfect pairing for curves. It’s also that rare combination of very chic and put-together, but also unbelievably comfortable! Who can say no to that?

Faith measures 34″ high bust, 37″ full bust, 32″ waist, and 44″ hips. She’s 5′ 5″ and is wearing a size 8 C/D graded to a 12 waist and 14 hips.

The Appleton Dress is an advanced beginner pattern, although with our thorough instructions and free online sewalong, we think beginners can tackle it with no problem, too. There are three sleeve lengths to choose from – short, mid and long – which transform it from a winter-snuggly dress with tights and boots through to a flirty summer number for wearing with sandals.

Suzi measures 33″ high bust, 37″ full bust, 28″ waist, and 38″ hips. She’s 5′ 6″ and is wearing a size 6 E/F.

What makes the Cashmerette Appleton Dress different

What makes the Cashmerette Appleton Dress different from other wrap dresses? Darling, it’s all about the boobs.

Our signature C – H cup sizes, together with a clever construction method for the front band mean no gaping. That’s right – wiggle and jiggle all you like, but your boobs are going nowhere!

And when you have such an exuberant model as Suzi you know she’s going to test that to the limit!

One of our best-selling patterns!

Over 6,000 sewists have already experienced the wonder that is the Appleton Dress, so we’re thrilled that it’s now available to those of you in the smaller size range.

Here’s what some of them have to say:

The greatest dress sewing pattern ever created! No, I wasn’t paid to write that title. And yes this is seriously the greatest sewing pattern on the planet. I know it sounds far fetched but stitching this pattern got my groove back. I’ve made it 5 times and it will be forever in my tried and true stash.”
– Mary

Dress perfection. I am very new to dressmaking, I’ve tried several bought patterns with absolute disasters as results, I was about to give up, then I found the Appleton on Instagram! I’m now in love with me mades – my first Appleton was a triumph!”
– Leann

Best dress in the collection! This is a fantastic dress to sew and to wear!
It’s comfortable and can be incorporated in casual as well as smart wear. It’s a particularly well designed wrap dress, that doesn’t gape at the cleavage.

– Amanda

Changes to the Appleton Dress in the 0 – 16 size range

The style is exactly the same for both size ranges, but there are minor differences you’ll see if you compare the two:

  • The waist point is a little lower (broadly speaking, size 12+ people tend towards being shorter-waisted compared to people under size 12).
  • The neckband is slightly narrower to maintain the same visual proportions.
  • For the overlap sizes (12 – 16), there is slightly less ease at the waist and hip in the 0 – 16 range. Also, for sizes 12 – 16, the bicep is slightly larger in the 0 – 16 pattern than in the 12 – 32 pattern. Why? That’s a result of grading up from a size 8 (and one of the reason having two blocks is important when you start going into bigger plus sizes!).

Making your Appleton Dress

To make your Appleton Dress, we recommend light to midweight knits, with at least 50% crosswise stretch. Cashmerette faves include ITY, cotton jersey, silk jersey and viscose/rayon jersey.
