The Cedar is a casual dolman sleeve top with an optional pretty knotted detail suitable for knits or drapey wovens. You may often hear that a pattern only works in a knit or a woven fabric. The Cedar is one of those magical patterns that works in both: sew it up in a flowy silk for a chic look for the office, but make it out of an athletic knit and you’re set to hit the gym or run errands on the weekend. This makes the Cedar one of our most versatile patterns, and its pattern-hacking potential is off the charts. You could easily fill a whole wardrobe with the Cedar!

Molly measures 49″ bust, 43″ waist, 52″ hip and wears View B in a 22 G/H graded to a 24 at the hips.
Jenny measures 48″ bust, 40″ waist, 47″ hip and is wearing View A in a size 18 G/H.
There are two views of the Cedar Dolman Top. View A features a pretty knotted detail, while View B has a straight hem. Both views feature a scooped neckline and hem facing, which are topstitched down, and a center front seam. The dolman sleeves are incorporated into the pattern pieces, so no sleeve insertion is required. The dolman style has been adapted to work well for larger busts, but bear in mind that you’ll always have some folds at the underarm with dolmans–embrace the slouchy casual look!
When sewn in a knit, View A fulfills all your athleisurewear dreams. Jenny is wearing a Cedar in a double knit for ultimate comfort.

“Gorgeous and far too nice to hide in the gym! I have made the dolman top without the tie front and am thrilled with how nice it looks. The fabric is a remnant from Abakhan Fabrics, Mostyn, North Wales and was in a basket labelled ‘sportswear.’ It cost me roughly £3. My first plan was to make the pattern up in cheap fabric as a toile and so didn’t bother with interfacing, however, the result is such a lovely summer top that I’m wearing it now at work. What a wonderful surprise it is to make a pattern that not only fits beautifully without any alterations but is flattering too. I love the neck and hem facings which I stitched down with a twin needle as suggested. This pattern is far too nice to keep for the gym and it’s fairly quick to sew too.”

A New View for the Spruce Tank
Previously paired with the Cedar Dolman Top, the workout tank top is now the Spruce Tank. We’ve updated this pattern with everyone’s favorite: sleeves! This sleek workout tank featuring princess seams and optional decorative straps now has a second view, with a high back and cap sleeves. Throw one on for the gym, then clean up in a Cedar Dolman Top and head to brunch.
