Behind the scenes at Cashmerette Patterns

Calm waters run deep, my friends! Behind the scenes here at Cashmerette Towers there’s been lots going on, so I thought I’d give you a little peek into what we’re up to… and get you excited about what’s coming up very soon 🙂

The biggest news is something you may have seen if you follow me on Instagram – new patterns are coming very soon! The patterns are manufactured by different printers – the tissue pattern pieces have been ready for a while, and we’re just waiting for the next round of instruction booklets and envelopes, which are due to arrive tomorrow. In order to keep costs down without having massive scale (obviously if you print 10,000 of something you get better deals… one day, one day) I’ve been printing patterns in batches of three. So that means you have several things to look forward to over the next few months… I won’t give them away right now but let’s just say that people who’ve been asking for separates and woven patterns will be happy – and the #1 requested pattern on the recent survey is coming your way. In fact, the Fall/Winter 2016 patterns are well underway at this point, so there’s lots to look forward to this year!

Now’s it’s the fun of sample making! I say fun… it’s actually something I stress about a lot, if I’m honest. It’s really challenging finding fabrics I love – that others will hopefully love too, that showcase the pattern to its best, and are still clear as to where seamlines and details are when they’re photographed. Luckily now the patterns are starting to be ready further in advance, I’m able to relax a bit and take my time figuring it out. Below is a potential sample fabric I picked up at Fabric Place Basement, in the suburbs outside Boston – they often have amazing BCBG fabrics and remnants from designers.

In other news, the studio is finally set up – it’s so, so nice to have a dedicated space, a mahoosive cutting table and lots (well, sort-of-lots) of storage. It is a petite studio, to be sure, but it’s mine. Watch out for a studio tour coming up soon…

There’s also more going on on the teaching front – you can join me for upcoming workshops in NYC (book here) and Washington D.C. (not available quite yet for booking, but watch this space!), plus another *very exciting* teaching project will be announced in the next couple of months. I’m also considering offering private and/or small group classes in my studio in Boston – would anyone be interested in that? Comment below or email me at jenny@cashmerette.com if you are so I can get a sense of whether it’s something worth setting up.

In my spare time, I’ve been continuing to try my hand at new creative endeavors, and I just bought my first watercolour set! (Well, first since I was a kid, anyway). I’ve been really enjoying playing around, and I booked myself in for a weekend class in April where I’m hoping to pick up some top tips. It’s interesting being a rank beginner again… I think I might write something about that experience soon.

Yes yes yes! I’ve been wanting to ask you for some private lessons for like 6 months now but didn’t want to seem like a crazy stalker or something!

  2. Meg says:

Looooove your giant cutting table. Ikea? I recognize the legs; is the table top Ikea, too? I ask because my back is killing me from cutting on the floor 😉

    1. Jenny says:

Yes it’s three IKEA tables pushed together!

  3. Liz says:

I was in Boston last year and had nothing to do! (Basically flew in and out from Australia for a week, rather quick and not much time to get used to the jet lag etc). If I ever come back I’ll be emailing wanting classes 😛 I hope the new studio goes well, it looks gorgeous 🙂

  4. You absolute tease showing us the corner of 3 envelopes. I caught myself subconsciously craning my head trying to see round the corner of my screen to work out what they were!
