Crazy cuteness and crazy PJs

Readers of Cashmerette will be well aware that I have a particular place in my heart for a certain pair of littl’uns, and that that bit of my heart also likes sewing for them. Most recently, they became the proud recipients of hats (to quote “Did you know that homemade presents are the best Jenny? I love you!”…. *wibble*). However, it also turns out that Oliver+S have some kind of trickery in their patterns, because two dresses that I made them absolutely ages ago (2 if not 3 years ago) still fit them!  I swear the girls have grown.

And not only in height but in ABSOLUTE ADORABLENESS. To wit:

Sigh.
I am now back at Cashmerette towers and the only way to get over leaving these little tykes was to… do some sewing. And indeed my first attempt at adult trousers! Sort of…. I cheated a bit, and decided to make the new Tofino pattern from Sewaholic, which we Brits would call PJ bottoms, and Americans apparently call “loungewear”. I like it.
I rescued some lovely green floral Liberty jersey from a UFO (unfinished object!) to make them. The jersey is pretty but incredibly lightweight and clingy in all the wrong places, dress-wise. Instead, I was able to *just* retrieve enough out of the half-sewn garment to make these. I bought a navy blue velveteen piping from a store in London to do the “go faster” stripes down the sides. Sadly, despite my best efforts – including stabilizing the jersey edge – it still stretched out a bit when I did the piping, so there are more like meandering lanes than go-faster highway. But hey, that’s more appropriate for my lounging style.
And here are some ludicrous pictures of me in my pyjamas for the whole world to see… Paired with my navy Renfrew, which may have been my first ever knit garment (the wonkiness suggests it):
Night night!

  1. I just bought that purple Amy butler fabric…I was thinking of going for a bold top but now maybe my daughter should wear it…

Let me know what you think!
